Sewing Level:Intermediate

Fabric: Woven

I made size and View (if applicable):

My mods: I adjusted the sewing a bit: I faced the hem, made the chest pocket a drop in from the yoke seam, and I made the back neck facing an actual pattern piece if I'm remembering correctly.

Description: 'Zero Waste' pattern style with asymmetrical tucks on the right front. Chest pocket, camp style collar, button front, cut-on sleeves, curved hem.

Notes: I love this shirt. I really really do. I've made three. It is a zero waste pattern and I didn't follow that on the second two. Once the pattern is cut out, you can lay the pattern pieces however you want and I don't think i used any more fabric. While I think zero waste is a cool challenge as a pattern drafter, I'm not concerned with my fabric scraps (I compost the natural fiber ones). I think the bias hem treatment is very tricky so my second two shirts I used a facing. I also made the pocket a drop in style and I think this looks pretty slick.

I like the tucks and asymmetry. The neck opening is quite roomy. I didn't use my scraps to make some of the pieces, I just cut them out or made a pattern piece. I wanted a lower profile chest pocket since my first shirt was a medium weight linen and it would have felt chunky.

I sized a whole size down so it can be even more oversized if you like.

The instructions are a lot! So if you like detail they will work great. But it was a little too much and when it's overly a lot, I get pretty confused. Pay attention to the cutting too. I accidentally cut my placket off since the lines are a little confusing. It didn't help that the printer accidentally left one of the MANY sizes toggled on so I had random lines from a different size bisecting pieces. The pieces are marked, and the instructions indicate the placket cutting, but it is definitely a key place to pay attention.
