A PDF Sewing Pattern to make the Cocoon Project Bag.

This simple portable project bag keeps you on the go! Your project on top of the yarn or supplies keeps them safe. The Cocoon is unlined making fabric choice the key to a bag with a lot of body. Construction was designed to minimize bulky seams.

There is a reference video with Time Stamps included with the purchase of your pattern.The sewing steps have the corresponding time stamp to the same step in the video as well.

Skill Level: Adventurous- this is designed to be fast and not too heavy to sew on any machine. The sewing steps are straight-forward but like a lot of my patterns, there is a bit of clever assembling. Just trust in the process! I'm very thorough yet concise in explaining things.

Finished Measurements: 

  • 9.5" tall (when standing on its end) x 7" wide and 6.25" deep (see measurement schematic)

Materials Needed:

Heavy weight or stiff fabrics work best.For the samples, the Marigolds were printed on the Dogwood Denim from Spoonflower. Having a heavy weight fabric that your machine can sew at least a few layers of will work best for the Cocoon. It helps the bag stand up on its end. And it eliminates any stiffener or linings.

Consider your fabric print selection carefully as directional prints can only be used one way when you’re cutting out your Cocoon.Examples are provided on Page 3 of the

Fabrics and material:
Outer Fabric
Any Width: 1/2 yd/45.7 cm


Lining Fabric (for the Inset):
Any Width: 1/4 yd/22.9 cm


*You can easily get two Cocoons with these
amounts if you’re using 54”/137 cm wide Main Fabric or wider.

Notions:

1.5” - 2” wide Webbing: 12.5” long

Metric: 3.8 cm x 5 cm wide Webbing: 31.8 cm long

Cotton webbing is used in the samples but any webbing can be used- even a home made strap from matching or contrast fabric.
