V-Neck Coat by The Assembly Line

Sewing Level: Intermediate

Fabric: Wovens, warm fabrics. (Flannel is used in this project)

I made size and View (if applicable): Size M, Unlined View

My mods: Bound the seams, changed in the in-seam pocket to a cut-away pocket.

Description: Long coat with interesting collar detail. Can be lined or unlined. Two-piece sleeve, three button closure, optional belt.

My notes: I'm not sure I would have selected flannel for the coat fabric thinking it was a little light weight but I was pleasantly surprised (mind you I live someplace that never gets very cold) and it felt like a nice extra layer. Lined it could have been nice on a chilly day.

It fit very nice and if I made one for me I'd accommodate some of my fit issues in my lower back and upper shoulder. The sleeve cap could use some extra height on me too. 

The sewing instructions were pretty good but I think the collar area is a little more subtle and some extra care will pay off. I even fine tuned it once I was completely done off camera since I noticed I could line the neck seam up with the dart seam if I was accurate and it looks smooth and continuous.

I didn't sew the neck seams together like instructed and instead pushed the seam allowance up in to the collar and I stitched in the ditch along the neck seam to secure (but hand sewing could work and be less visible).

I like it better without the belt but it could be handy- I'd add some belt loops and make it much longer or use a three bar slider (belt buckle) to secure.
