We're diving in to the world of Pants Fitting!

You can fit any pair of pants you like! There are two pairs shown all the way through to cover as many options as possible. Both are non-stretch.

These Skill Building Sessions are interactive and will stay focused on chipping away at understanding what we want from our pants and how to fit them.

Whether this is your first foray in to fitting pants or you're ready for a tried and true sloper or block to be used for fitting any pants pattern, we'll cover crotch curves, rise, circumference, inseams and so much more.

PDF Companion

There is a 34 page companion PDF that follows along with each module. The videos are the primary instruction and the companion will support the videos.

Here is the Table of Contents:

The PDF also includes a cheat sheet for fitting every issue.

Step-by-Step

This SBS was designed to chip away at Fitting Pants. There aren't any shortcuts or mysteries solved. Just take it step-by-step.

Breaking the process down using logic to pinch and pull where you need it simplifies the process. You don't need a specifically named fitting issue to solve. You may have a fit issue that has a name like 'a sway back' or 'knock knees'. But you may also have a combination of many fit issues, and you don't have to search for one that fits your needs- you can fit ANY fit issues just by pinching fabric where there's excess, and letting it out where it's tight. If you can't find the solution to the fit issue you're having, don't despair. It doesn't mean there isn't a solution.

This is how this SBS is structured. There may be fitting processes out there that seem to take all the guess work and effort out of fitting your pants, and if you're lucky one of those will give you the results you want. But the chances are they won't. All fitting is the exact same problem and solution- too much or not enough. What is necessary to understand is knowing what to do with the excess or how to add more if you need it. It's work. But it's really not that hard if you focus on each area and use logic and honesty.

Videos

There are a lot of videos in this series. Each one isn't very long (except for the zoom sessions). And if you take each module and its videos and fit that same section of your pant in the same order, you'll have a fit pair of pants in no time!

Pants to Fit

There are two paths with the Fitting Videos: In one path, a zippered closer fitting pair of jeans and the other path is a looser elastic waist pant with optional facing.

Both paths have a lot of knowledge. They are simple but detailed. You see two different pairs of pants (Glissando Pants by Love Notions, above, and Free Range Slacks by Sew House 7, below) being fit. Each module is an installment of this process and the best order in which to fit pants. Both are non-stretch.

  1. Each of these pants are fit on a real body (not a dress form).
  2. You see the changes that should be made.
  3. Sewing Corrections
  4. And what the pattern changes look like

If you want the most thorough experience with this SBS, I'd prioritize watching the videos of the pant style that closely resembles your pants. But I would also suggest watching the other path since there are lots of kernels and reinforcement when you see fitting in a different pant.

You can fit any pair of pants you want!

Extra Content

The original zoom workshops are included in this SBS. You can see fit issues on MANY different sizes and body types using as many pants styles. These are in the Workshop Zooms and many found these the most valuable since there was some real world context and conversation about different strategies and troubleshooting fit issues.
